What’s in
the bottle.
Eight plants and minerals from the Portuguese coast: where they come from, what they do, and the formulas that use them.

01
Sea fennel
Crithmum maritimum
Grows from cracks in the limestone above the sea, full of vitamin C.
Where from
Cliffs between Cabo Raso and Guincho, picked by hand under licence from May to July.
What it does
Rich in vitamin C, chlorogenic acid and carotenoids. It evens tone and brings back the clear look of skin that has been outside. We use the leaf extract, the steam-distilled water and the cold-pressed seed oil.
In 9 formulas, including
02
Atlantic kelp
Laminaria digitata
Grows in cold, fast water and holds on to its moisture at low tide.
Where from
Harvested from managed beds off the north coast of Portugal and Galicia, dried at low temperature.
What it does
Polysaccharides and minerals that slow water loss and leave skin calm rather than tight. The backbone of our cleansers and gel creams; fermented, it becomes Kelp Essence.
In 8 formulas, including

03
Marsh samphire
Salicornia europaea
Lives with its roots in salt water and never dries out.
Where from
A grower on the Tagus estuary salt marsh, 40 minutes from the lab.
What it does
Its own moisture-holding sugars and minerals help skin keep water in. The hero of Samphire Cream and the milk cleanser.
In 3 formulas, including
Five more from the coast
Smaller doses, each with one clear job in the formulas that use them.

04
Bladderwrack
Fucus vesiculosus
Fucoidan and polyphenols that soften the look of tired skin and help keep oil in balance.
In Niacinamide Shore Serum and 1 more

05
Sea buckthorn
Hippophae rhamnoides
Palmitoleic acid and carotenoids for very dry, mature skin. It gives Buckthorn Rich Cream and our lip oil their natural apricot tint.

06
Rockrose
Cistus ladanifer
A warm amber-resin scent and calming polyphenols. Used in tiny amounts in our cleansing oil, eye cream and Night Cove Oil.
In Night Cove Oil

07
Sea holly
Eryngium maritimum
Soothes redness and the hot, tight feeling of reactive skin. In Azelaic Calm Serum and Ceramide Barrier Cream.
In Azelaic Calm Serum and 1 more

08
Aveiro sea salt
Maris sal
A natural polish in our body scrub and a mineral touch in the clay mask.
What we
leave out.
Short lists, real doses. If an ingredient is on the label, it is there to do something.
Synthetic fragrance
Face care is fragrance-free or scented only with what is already in the plants.
Drying alcohol
No denatured alcohol in any leave-on formula.
Mineral oil and silicones
Squalane from Portuguese olives does the same job and leaves with water.
Unprinted doses
Every active and its percentage is on the bottle, not only on the website.
